Standard 16S tests give a low-resolution view of your gut. Wellsprout's shotgun sequencing reads it down to species and strain, and shows what your bacteria actually do for your training.

About Wellsprout Gut Microbiome Test
Frequently Asked Questions
What does the Wellsprout Gut Microbiome Test measure?
Your test uses comprehensive shotgun metagenomic sequencing, the most detailed method available for gut microbiome analysis, to identify bacterial species at strain-level resolution. You'll see which species are present, their abundance levels, your Shannon diversity score, overall microbiome composition, and your Firmicutes/Bacteroidetes (F/B) ratio. Beyond composition, we analyze functional pathways, including protein digestion, fibre fermentation, and vitamin biosynthesis, and how your microbiome affects 6 major health systems: brain, gut, heart, liver, immunity, and longevity.
Who should take the Wellsprout Gut Microbiome Test?
Ideal if you experience bloating, gas, or irregular digestion; afternoon energy crashes; brain fog or poor concentration; stubborn weight despite healthy eating; or simply want to optimize your health proactively. It's also a great fit for athletes and active individuals looking to improve recovery and performance, people trying to build healthier daily habits, those managing stress or sleep issues, and anyone simply curious about what's really going on in their gut. Regardless of where you are in life, whether you're a student, a working professional, a new parent, or navigating menopause, understanding your gut can help you make better decisions for your stage of life. In short, this test is for anyone who wants to understand their body better and make informed, personalized decisions about their health.
Do not take this test if: you are currently menstruating, experiencing diarrhea, or taking antibiotics (wait 2 weeks after finishing).
What kind of recommendations do I get with my results?
Along with your test results, you'll get personalized recommendations across five areas, all built from your own microbiome data. Nutrition guidance shows which foods to eat more or less of based on how your gut responds. Exercise recommendations suggest activity types that support your gut profile. Sleep insights highlight how your microbiome may be affecting your rest. And supplement suggestions point to targeted probiotics or prebiotics based on any gaps or imbalances found. It's personalized to you, not generic advice.
How do I prepare for the Wellsprout Gut Microbiome Test?
Maintain your usual diet before testing. For the most accurate results:
- Avoid probiotic supplements for 7 days before collection
- Limit alcohol for 24 hours before
- Wait at least 2 weeks after finishing antibiotics
- Collect your sample when not menstruating or experiencing diarrhea
When will I get my Wellsprout Gut Microbiome Test results?
Results are delivered digitally 3 to 4 weeks after the laboratory receives your sample. You'll get an email notification when your interactive dashboard is ready.
Is the Wellsprout Gut Microbiome Test available outside Singapore?
Currently, the test is only available for customers in Singapore and Australia. Contact us if you'd like to know when it's available elsewhere.
How often should I retest?
We recommend retesting every 3 to 4 months to track improvements in microbiome diversity and health scores. This lets you measure the impact of dietary and lifestyle changes with objective data.
How does the Wellsprout Gut Microbiome Test compare to others?
Most gut tests on the market use 16S rRNA sequencing, which only identifies bacteria at the genus level and gives a limited snapshot of what's present. Wellsprout uses shotgun metagenomic sequencing instead, which identifies species and strains with much greater precision and also captures functional data, like what your microbiome is actually doing (protein digestion, fibre fermentation, vitamin biosynthesis) rather than just who's there.
